Data Explorer is a tool that lets learners visualize and analyze data. It is a great way to have people create and test hypotheses. The app includes a few example datasets but you can also add your own data. There are several guides for instructors on the Data Explorer site to help you design activities.
The authors of the Gala/OCELOTS module A Rainforest with a Gold Chain?○ for instance, include two different datasets in their module for use in data explorer.

Using Data Explorer in a Gala Module
First, you may want to create an activity page for your Data Explorer activity (see page 4 of this module).
You can host a dataset for Data Explore using the options mentioned in page 2 of this module. For example, here is one of the datasets used in A Rainforest with a Gold Chain. The file-size is under 2mb so we can just upload it using the ‘Attach a file’ edgenote option Gala.
Next, you want to direct readers to the Data Explorer site and let them know to click ‘Import your dataset.’

Be sure to include instructions for the activity on separate cards, for clarity.
You may also want to include reflection questions following the activity, to reinforce the learning.
Data explorer also allows you to download images of any charts you generate through the tool. These can be added to your module, or to learners’ modules, if Gala is being used as an assignment within a learning community.
