Macdonald Campus Dairy Farm Anaerobic Digester:
How can we reduce the carbon footprint of dairy production?
The dairy industry is responsible for producing 3.4% of greenhouse gas emissions, mainly in the form of methane. The same gas we spend billions to extract from the earth!!
and
The Macdonald Campus dairy farm produces over a million gallons of manure annually. This manure is stored until it can be applied as fertilizer, during storage it releases methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. By installing a sealed cover on the manure tank, the farm can capture methane emissions, transforming a harmful byproduct into a valuable energy source and generating profit from what would otherwise be waste.
