In May 2016, Mandera, Kenya was faced with the return of a deadly, mosquito-vectored virus. Chikungunya first surfaced in 2004, and since then, no vaccine or medicine had been developed to counter CHIKV, the arbovirus that causes the disease. Within a month, thousands were infected, hospitals faced overcrowding, and doubt lingered as to the true cause of the outbreak.
