The United States and COVID-19:
Can the United States look in the mirror in the wake of the Global Pandemic?
The Global pandemic has pulled the veil off of the United States' perceived superiority.
The American perspective has always understood that the United States is the greatest country on Earth. This idea was rooted in imperialism and strengthened in American society following the Cold War. The assumption that the United States was an untouchable entity absent of consequence was, and remains commonplace. However, the global crisis brought on by COVID-19 has revealed the United States' overloaded health system, inept leadership, and most importantly, the absurd nature of our perceived exceptionalism when compared to other countries' responses to the same crisis. Can we recognize our failing government, reflect on our actions, and fix it? Or will our nationalistic rhetoric drown out criticisms, as it leads to our downfall?
