Education in Ghana:
How does the curriculum at Our Lady of Holy Cross School (OLHCS) advance the school mission statement? How does the OLHCS curriculum compare to American curriculums?
Only ~76% of children in Ghana enroll in high school and just 22% in college. Therefore, OLHCS is on the front lines of trying to raise higher education matriculate rates amongst their students by instilling a love for learning.
West Africa has struggled for decades with education along with a myriad of other issues due to the lasting legacy of colonialism. While many areas continue to struggle, there are bright spots, such as OLHCS in Kasoa, Ghana. By analyzing what they see as their purpose through education and how they incorporate that mission into their school curriculum, they can help better inform other schools and lay a framework for effective education in the region.
